About this size
At this diameter a dowel pin is doing delicate work: locating a lens cell, aligning the halves of a small instrument housing, or acting as a hinge pin in a hand-held device. Pins this fine are easy to bend during assembly, so the receiving holes want to be on-size and square, and press fits want an arbor rather than a hammer. Handling is usually the limiting factor rather than the pin itself.
Ti-6Al-4V is specified where mass matters or where the pin sits against titanium structure and galvanic pairing is a concern. It is roughly half the density of stainless at comparable strength, and it is biocompatible, which is why it appears in implantable and hand-held surgical hardware. It is slow and abrasive to machine, which lengthens the cycle time — price it against the alternatives in the configurator rather than assuming, because the ranking here depends on what bar stock costs on the day and it is not always what you would expect.
Specified in inches, this pin is turned to a fixed shop band rather than a computed ISO grade: h8 holds a thousandth, h7 half a thousandth, and h6 two tenths. That is usually how a US drawing calls out a locating pin, and it keeps the tolerance conversation in the same units as the hole it goes into. Inch stock also tends to be what a domestic shop already has on the shelf, which shows up in the lead time more than in the price.
Need a different length?
This page prices a 0.2500" pin, but the length is not fixed. The same 0.0625" diameter is turned to order at any length between 0.02" and 4" — enter the one you need and the price updates immediately.
That is usually the reason to have a pin made rather than bought. A standard pin comes in standard lengths, so an odd length means cutting one down, which leaves a raw end to re-finish and puts the length tolerance at the mercy of whatever did the cutting. A pin turned to length arrives finished on both ends and held to ±0.005". More on that on the custom length dowel pins page.
