Stainless 17-4 H900 Dowel Pins

Precipitation-hardened stainless in its highest-strength condition.

17-4 PH in the H900 condition is the choice when a stainless pin has to be strong rather than merely corrosion resistant. Precipitation hardening gives it strength approaching alloy steel while keeping usable corrosion performance, which suits instrument mechanisms and load-bearing locating pins. H900 is the highest-strength and least ductile of the aging conditions, so it favours shear duty over anything that wants to flex.

17-4 in H900 turns up when a designer has run out of room: the pin has to fit a hole that cannot grow, and a 303 or 316 pin at that diameter will not carry the shear. Because it is aged to strength rather than work-hardened, it holds its properties through the section rather than only at the surface.

Any length, not just the stocked ones

The diameters below are the standard nominal sizes, because that is what a hole is usually reamed for. The lengths are not a constraint: anything from 0.02" to 4" can be turned to order, which is the step that otherwise means cutting a stock pin down and re-finishing the end. Diameters run from 0.015" to 0.375", including sizes between two standard ones. Pricing in Stainless 17-4 H900 starts at $3.17 per piece at 100 off, and falls further at higher volumes.
