Metric Dowel Pins
Metric dowel pins here are turned to order rather than picked from a bin, so the usual constraint of the standard metric series does not apply: any diameter from roughly 0.5 to 9.5 mm and any length up to 100 mm can be quoted and ordered online. The sizes listed below start from the standard nominal diameters, since that is what a hole tends to be reamed for, but the length is the part worth choosing freely.
The tolerance is where metric orders differ most from inch ones. Diameter tolerance is computed as an ISO 286-1 IT band, so it scales with diameter rather than sitting at one fixed figure — a 2 mm pin at h7 is held far tighter in absolute terms than an 8 mm one at the same grade. Grades h5 through h8 are available.
The configurator works natively in millimetres: dimensions are entered and displayed in mm, the tolerance band is computed in mm, and the drawing and quote come out the same way, so nothing needs converting on the way in or out. Every specification page carries both unit systems regardless, since a metric part is often ordered against an inch-dimensioned assembly or the other way round.
